Following a violent assault by gunmen on a military police centre in the capital, the army is conducting security operations in the area. The military regime, in power since a coup in 2021, has been engaged in constant battles with rebel groups.
Located near the main airport, the military facility in the Feladie district was targeted in the early hours of the morning, resulting in gunfire and explosions. The army confirmed the attack and advised residents to avoid the area for safety. Consequently, the nearby Modibo Keita international airport was temporarily closed, and a local school and UN staff were instructed to limit movement.
Mali’s military stance has shifted toward alliances with Russia, straying from traditional European partners. Recent military offensives in the north have sparked allegations of abuses against civilians.
