Italy reallocates EU funds from Stellantis gigafactory

ACC, with shareholders like Mercedes and TotalEnergies, announced a delay in the construction of their gigafactory due to the slower transition to electric mobility. However, the industry minister Adolfo Urso plans to utilize EU funds to support investments aligning with Italy’s green energy strategy. Italy has allocated €200m from the EU’s recovery funds for the gigafactory, with an additional €200m from national and regional funds. Minister Urso hinted at further state funding if ACC proposes a new industrial plan for Termoli.

Stellantis reassured the government about continuing endothermic engine production in Termoli to maintain current employment levels during the transition to the gigafactory. The availability of national subsidies is deemed crucial for supporting ACC’s investment in Italy and enhancing its competitiveness in the market.
