Iraqi PM to declare end of US-led coalition mission

In a recent meeting between US President Joe Biden and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, the official end date for the international coalition’s mission in Iraq was discussed. Al-Sudani announced that the conclusion of the mission will be announced during the upcoming international conference against ISIS, signifying a pivotal moment in Iraq’s journey from conflict to stability.

Al-Sudani emphasized that Iraq no longer requires the support of 86 nations as the threat from ISIS has significantly diminished. The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to coalition forces for their role in defeating ISIS and highlighted the ongoing dialogue with the coalition regarding the mission’s conclusion.

Despite progress towards stability, regional tensions persist, particularly with Iran-backed militias in Iraq. The influence of these militias, including the Popular Mobilization Forces, could impact Iraq’s stability and the timeline for the coalition’s withdrawal. Geopolitical shifts, such as recent attacks on Israel, underscore the fragile balance in the region and the importance of strategic agreements between nations for lasting stability.
