The recent deadly attack at Allenby Crossing highlighted the vulnerable eastern border with Jordan, posing a threat of supplying West Bank terrorists with explosives. In response, the IDF is set to secure the Jordanian border using a new unit, barriers, and drones. The comprehensive plan, to be presented to senior officials in the Defense and Finance Ministries, consists of three phases.
Phase one involves deploying surveillance equipment like radars and cameras, followed by rapid response forces for infiltration scenarios. The IDF will enhance aerial capabilities and upgrade the existing engineering barriers. Additionally, a new regional division, the Eastern Brigade, will oversee border security.
The project aims to prevent arms smuggling and address the influx of weapons in the West Bank. With escalating security concerns, the IDF remains vigilant against potential threats like the smuggling of dual-use explosive materials by Iranian proxies. As geopolitical dynamics in the region evolve, the need to reinforce border security becomes increasingly crucial.
