Government urges platform aggregators to register gig workers on e-Shram Portal for social benefits.

The Ministry of Labour & Employment is paving the way for social security benefits for gig and platform workers by calling on platform aggregators to register their workers on the e-Shram portal. This initiative is crucial to ensure workers have access to welfare schemes, with aggregators helping to maintain an accurate beneficiary registry. The Ministry has issued an advisory with a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) outlining aggregator responsibilities, such as registering workers and updating their data.

Upon registration, platform workers will be assigned a Universal Account Number (UAN) to access key social security benefits. The Central Government, in collaboration with select aggregators, has completed API integration testing and is progressing with the registration process to ensure comprehensive coverage of gig workers. Aggregators are required to regularly update workers’ details, report any exits promptly, and a toll-free helpline (14434) has been set up to assist with onboarding and resolving technical issues.

A meeting is scheduled with aggregators on 18.09.2024, chaired by Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Labour and Employment, to further enhance and support this significant initiative.
