Minister of Finance Riikka Purra (PS) expressed her disappointment with the outcome of parliamentary negotiations regarding the funding of YLE, Finland’s public broadcasting company. The proposed freeze on the indexing used for funding adjustments and the increase in value-added tax would have a significant impact on YLE’s budget in 2027.
CEO Merja Ylä-Anttila mentioned that the decisions will lead to consultative negotiations and service reductions at YLE. Purra stated that the Finns Party opposes other parliamentary parties influencing the decision-making process.
Despite economic challenges, YLE announced the addition of Arabic and Somali-language news services, prompting criticism from the Finns Party. Purra questioned the allocation of resources for new services, especially those aimed at immigrant groups.
