European Union Condemns Arrest of Spaniards and Czech in Venezuela
The arrest of two Spaniards and one Czech national by the Venezuelan regime led by President Nicolás Maduro, accused of planning to kill the head of state, has drawn condemnation from the European Union. The EU stated that it was closely monitoring the case and expressed concern over the situation.
The European Commission Foreign Affairs Spokesman emphasized the consular responsibility of Spain and the Czech Republic in handling the situation of their detained citizens. Both countries denied involvement in any political destabilization operation in Venezuela and called for respect for human rights and the release of all arbitrarily detained individuals.
In response to the arrests, Venezuela’s Assembly Speaker urged severing diplomatic and commercial ties with Spain, escalating tensions between the two countries. Meanwhile, six asylum seekers at the Argentine Embassy in Caracas, now under Brazilian custody, reported harassment from the Venezuelan government and called for safe passage to Argentina.
