2024 Election Voting Begins Amid Third-Party Challenges
Voting in the 2024 election kicks off this week with several states already sending out ballots. However, some states are facing delays due to third-party candidates challenging access to the ballot, slowing down the process.
With less than 50 days until the Nov. 5 election, voters in select states have the opportunity to cast their ballots in person, by absentee, or via mail starting this week. The popularity of early voting, which attracted over 100 million voters in the 2020 election, continues to be a key feature in this election cycle.
Mail-in voting allows voters to request a ballot to be sent or receive them automatically in some states. Absentee and mail-in ballots, once distinct, now follow similar processes. Yet, 14 states still require a reason for casting an absentee ballot.
Challenges in Key States
States like North Carolina and Pennsylvania are experiencing delays due to third-party challenges. Wisconsin, where ballots are set to go out on Sept. 19, saw former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. filing an appeal to remove his name from the ballot after endorsing Donald Trump.
The outcomes in battleground states like Wisconsin, along with other crucial states, could play a significant role in determining the winner of the White House in November.
