Rights advocates are demanding accountability following an alleged attack on a pro-Palestinian Muslim woman at the Democratic convention. The incident occurred as Nadia Ahmad, a Florida delegate, and other protesters silently protested US arms sales to Israel. The group was attacked by men carrying signs reading “We Love You Joe,” causing Ahmad to suffer a concussion.
Despite efforts to identify the attackers as union members from LiUNA, the DNC has not publicly condemned the attack or taken action against those responsible. Rights groups are calling for the DNC to address the incident and support the ongoing criminal investigation.
Robert McCaw, CAIR government affairs director, expressed concern over the lack of accountability, stating, “People felt impunity to attack. Why do hate crimes increase when you’re in a situation where you feel like you can attack, and no one will follow up?”
It is crucial for the DNC to denounce the attack, take action against the perpetrators, and implement anti-Muslim bigotry and anti-Palestinian racism training to prevent future incidents.
Join the call for accountability and support for victims of hate crimes.
