Cairns: Economy booming but Govt wasting benefits

Social Democrats leader Holly Cairns has criticized the Government for not capitalizing on the advantages of a thriving economy. She highlighted issues like homelessness, inadequate disability services, and rising child poverty during the party’s annual think-in in Dublin.

Cairns acknowledged the need for a change in leadership, hinting at a possible election in November. Despite accusations of reluctance to enter Government, she expressed the party’s willingness to make a difference in policy implementation.

The Social Democrats have plans to contest in over half of the constituencies, building on their recent increase in council seats. Cairns dismissed the idea of forming a left-wing bloc with other parties post-election, emphasizing on the party’s independent mandate.

As the party gears up for upcoming political battles, Cairns remains focused on strengthening their own position rather than aligning with others.
