The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is set to tackle the city’s deteriorating road conditions by relaying 197 roads starting in November. With a budget of Rs 659.71 crore, the BBMP plans to resurface 459.25 kilometers of roads, focusing on asphalting, footpath repairs, and culvert maintenance at an average cost of Rs 1.43 crore per kilometer.
The roadworks will extend beyond the Central Business District to areas like Mahadevapura, Bommanahalli, KR Puram, RR Nagar, and Yelahanka. This shift in focus is a response to public criticism of poor road conditions, prompting the BBMP to reallocate funds and adjust its budget to accommodate the new projects.
BBMP’s Chief Engineer, BS Prahlad, confirmed that the entire project will be funded internally, with work expected to commence in November or December. This proactive approach signals a commitment to improving Bengaluru’s infrastructure and addressing the longstanding issue of neglected roads in the city.
