306 Hong Kong applicants’ names, phone numbers leaked after contractor loses USB

Over 300 Hong Kong applicants are facing a privacy breach after a USB flash drive containing their personal information was lost by a contractor of a government community hall. The Central and Western District Office has reported the incident to the police and privacy watchdog, ensuring that no identity card numbers were exposed.

The portable device was misplaced by a staff member of Synergis Facility Management, responsible for handling booking applications for Sai Ying Pun Community Hall. The device holds the names, contact numbers, and event details of 306 applicants.

Efforts are underway to contact all affected applicants, apologize for the breach, and provide explanations. A hotline has been established for inquiries regarding the leak, offering support and assistance to those impacted by the incident.
