King Felipe VI of Spain received the credentials of Hosni Abdel Wahed, the first ambassador of the State of Palestine to Spain, following Spain’s recognition of Palestine in May.
The ceremony took place at the Royal Palace in Madrid, where Ambassador Abdel Wahed was officially welcomed. He had been heading the Palestinian diplomatic mission in Spain since 2022.
Spain’s recognition of the State of Palestine on May 28 aligned it with other countries like Ireland and Norway. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez also announced plans for a bilateral summit between Spain and Palestine later in the year.
This significant diplomatic move signifies a closer relationship between Spain and Palestine, marking a new chapter in their international relations.
