Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Shares Economic Reforms with ADB President
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently met with Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masatsugu Asakawa to discuss a range of economic reforms introduced by the government to boost the economy. The reforms include enhancing tax revenues, improving energy sector sustainability, climate resilience, subsidy reduction, and social protection scaling.
PM Shehbaz emphasized his personal oversight of the reforms’ progress to ensure successful implementation and long-term impact for sustainable economic growth and stability. He also expressed Pakistan’s commitment to working with development partners for climate resilience projects, including agriculture.
During the meeting, the loan signing of the Sindh Emergency Housing Reconstruction Project and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rural Roads Development Project took place, with ADB providing support amounting to US$720 million. Asakawa praised Pakistan’s relationship with ADB and commended the government’s reforms, reaffirming ADB’s continued support for infrastructure development, climate resilience, and institutional reforms in the country.
Federal Ministers and senior government officials also attended the meeting to discuss further collaboration and support from ADB for Pakistan’s growth and development.
