President Putin Increases Size of Russian Armed Forces
President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to officially increase the number of personnel in Russia’s armed forces to almost 2.4 million people, with 1.5 million of them being servicemen. This latest move comes after a previous decree in December 2023, where the number of military personnel was boosted to just over 2.2 million.
In his order, Putin instructed the Russian government to allocate necessary funds for the Defense Ministry to implement the increase, bringing the total number of personnel in the armed forces to 2,389,130.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained that this increase is in response to the ongoing “proxy war” being waged against Moscow by the West. He emphasized the need to ensure the security of the country given the various forms of warfare being directed at Russia.
