In a recent development, Gov. Babagana Zulum has called for the support of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other stakeholders to assist in resettling victims of the flood disaster back into their communities. With 36 camps currently opened to accommodate the displaced individuals, Zulum emphasized the need to gradually close down these camps as the floodwaters recede from the Alau dam.
Recognizing the importance of proper coordination and collaboration, Zulum urged NEMA to work closely with the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the flood committee to ensure an effective response to the emergency. He also highlighted the government’s plan to provide a two-week food ration for those in the camps, with the expectation that many will soon be able to return to their homes.
The Director-General of NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, commended Zulum’s leadership in handling the situation and assured continued support from NEMA. Additionally, she announced a donation of 50 tonnes of relief materials from the United Arab Emirates for distribution to Borno and other affected states. This collaborative effort aims to bring relief and support to those impacted by the flood disaster.
