Ambassador Mohammad Kazem Al-e Sadeq praised the successful outcomes of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s recent state visit to Iraq in an interview with Tasnim. The importance of the trip to Erbil and Sulaymaniyah in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region was highlighted, where discussions were held on the full implementation of a security agreement between Iran and Iraq.
Assurances were given by officials in Baghdad and Erbil that the Kurdistan Region’s soil will not be used to threaten Iran. Talks also focused on enhancing economic projects and the export of Iranian services to the Kurdistan Region. Cooperation was promised on the release or extradition of Iranian prisoners in Erbil and Sulaymaniyah.
During the visit, President Pezeshkian signed 14 cooperation documents with Iraq and also visited the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. Cooperation for regional development has been emphasized as a key aspect of Iran’s foreign policy under the new administration.
