The ongoing protests by junior doctors in West Bengal are now in their 36th day as they demand justice for a fellow medic who was raped and murdered at R G Kar hospital. The doctors, who have been on a cease work for over a month, are calling for the removal of the Kolkata Police Commissioner and senior state health officials. Despite assurances from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that their demands would be addressed, a proposed meeting with the protesters fell through, leading to further frustrations.
Previous attempts at talks have also failed due to disagreements over live streaming and the number of attending representatives. The body of the postgraduate woman doctor was found at the hospital on August 9, leading to a CBI probe into the incident. The agitating doctors remain resolute in their demands, vowing to continue their protest until justice is served. The stalemate continues as the healthcare system in the state remains in turmoil due to the ongoing protests.
