Jailed Nobel Peace Prize winner, Narges Mohammadi, is calling on the international community to address the oppression of women in Iran, particularly in light of a women-led protest movement that began two years ago. In a letter from Tehran’s Evin prison, Mohammadi urged action from international institutions and individuals worldwide to combat the discrimination faced by women in Iran.
The protests, known as “Woman, Life, Freedom,” began following the death of a young woman named Mahsa Amini in custody, sparking outrage over Iran’s strict dress code enforcement. Mohammadi, an advocate against mandatory headscarf laws and the death penalty in Iran, has been imprisoned since November 2021.
Despite facing challenges, Mohammadi remains resolute in her fight for women’s rights and societal change in Iran. The international community is called upon to support these efforts and stand against oppressive policies. Let us join together in solidarity with those advocating for justice and equality in Iran.
