Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov recently met with Bo Li, Deputy Managing Director of the IMF, to discuss financial and economic cooperation. The Ministry of Economy of Kazakhstan highlighted the strategic nature of the relationship with the IMF, noting positive outcomes such as supporting structural reforms and the growth of financial markets.
Bektenov emphasized the government’s commitment to robust economic growth through partnerships with the National Bank and the Agency for Development and Regulation of the Financial Market. Moody’s recently upgraded Kazakhstan’s sovereign rating to Baa1 with a stable outlook, reflecting improvements in institutional environments and economic diversification.
Bo Li expressed a strong interest in continuing cooperation with Kazakhstan, a member of the IMF since 1992. The IMF also opened a Regional Capacity Development Center in Almaty last year to support countries in the Caucasus, Central Asia, and Mongolia.
