In a recent television interview in Islamabad, Hina Rabbani emphasized the negative impact of unilateral sanctions on nations, calling them nothing but crimes. She highlighted how these sanctions, particularly those imposed on Iran, deepen the problems faced by nations, especially poverty.

As the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Rabbani stressed that her country should not be obligated to follow unilateral sanctions imposed by powerful nations. These economic measures directly affect the most vulnerable in society, making them particularly harmful in her eyes.

Over the years, the United States has utilized unilateral sanctions against Iran for various reasons, including the withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal. Despite efforts to lift UN sanctions in 2015, subsequent administrations have continued the policy of imposing unilateral sanctions on Iran.

It is crucial to recognize the humanitarian consequences of such sanctions and the need for a more cooperative and inclusive approach to international relations.
