PTI Lawmakers Granted Bail After Arrests in Islamabad
An Islamabad anti-terrorism court (ATC) has granted bail to 10 PTI lawmakers who were arrested last week by the Islamabad police under the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act 2024. The arrests came after the party’s power show rally in Sangjani, where at least 11 PTI MNAs were detained from different areas of Islamabad.
During the rally on the outskirts of Islamabad, PTI demanded the release of their founder Imran Khan and criticized the government for marginalizing the party. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd, leading to the arrests of the lawmakers.
The MNAs were arrested on various charges, but the Islamabad High Court later put them on judicial remand. The National Assembly Speaker declared Parliament Lodges in Islamabad as a sub-jail for the detained lawmakers.
Today, the ATC granted bail to the PTI leaders after their lawyer argued that the charges were politically motivated and lacked basis. The judge accepted their plea against a bond of Rs30,000, despite the prosecutor’s request to deny bail due to the severity of the charges.
