Turkish security forces dealt a blow to terrorism by “neutralizing” three PKK/YPG terrorists in northern Iraq and Syria, close to the Turkish border, as announced by the National Defense Ministry. Two terrorists were neutralized in the Operation Euphrates Shield region of northern Syria, while another one was taken down in the Operation Claw-Lock zone of northern Iraq.
The term “neutralize” is used by Turkish authorities to signify that the terrorists either surrendered, were killed, or captured. These terrorists often seek refuge in northern Iraq, near the Turkish border, to plan and carry out attacks in Türkiye.
Since 2016, Ankara has been actively conducting anti-terror operations in northern Syria to prevent the establishment of a terror corridor and ensure the safety of residents. The successful operations include Euphrates Shield (2016), Olive Branch (2018), and Peace Spring (2019). Despite these efforts, PKK/YPG forces persist in targeting Turkish troops and terrorizing the local population.
The PKK, a designated terrorist group by Türkiye, the US, and the EU, has caused over 40,000 deaths in its 40-year terror campaign, targeting women, children, infants, and the elderly. The YPG serves as the Syrian arm of the PKK.
