SERAP Sues President Tinubu Over Petrol Price Hike
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has taken legal action against President Bola Tinubu, demanding a reduction in petrol prices from N845 to N600 per litre. The lawsuit filed at the Federal High Court challenges the President’s failure to address the surge in petrol prices and investigate corruption allegations within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
SERAP urges the court to compel President Tinubu to reverse the price hike and investigate corruption within the NNPCL, emphasizing the hardship faced by Nigerians due to the increased petrol prices. The organisation also highlights the lack of transparency and accountability in the oil sector, leading to unlawful price hikes.
While the NNPC mobilizes trucks to lift petrol from the Dangote refinery, independent oil marketers continue to criticize the firm’s monopoly on the market. The legal battle between SERAP and President Tinubu sheds light on the need for fair petrol pricing and accountability in the oil sector.
