Russia Revokes Accreditation of Six UK Diplomats Over Espionage Suspicions

The Russian FSB security service recently announced the withdrawal of accreditation for six British diplomats due to suspected espionage and threats to Russia’s security. The FSB accused the diplomats of engaging in subversive activities and intelligence gathering, claiming to have documentary proof of London’s coordination of escalating international tensions. Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova supported the FSB’s assessment, stating that the British embassy had exceeded the limits set by the Vienna Convention.

The British government swiftly dismissed the espionage accusations as unfounded, citing them as a response to Russian state-directed activities in Europe and the UK. The Kremlin’s decision to revoke accreditation was viewed as a move to protect national interests.

While the identities of the diplomats remain unconfirmed, Russia’s public Rossia-24 television aired footage of them leaving the country. The withdrawal of accreditation also signifies their expulsion from Russia. Despite the escalating diplomatic tensions, the British government maintains its position and commitment to defending its national interests.
