Germany Refuses Israeli Arms Requests, Approves Weapons Sales to Qatar

Germany has reportedly denied Israeli requests for arms while agreeing to sell weapons systems to Qatar. According to Bild newspaper, there seems to be a quiet arms embargo on Israel, as their request to purchase tank shells from Berlin went unanswered.

The Bild report states that over 100 million euros worth of weapons were approved for sale to Qatar by the German government. This decision is significant for Israel, which is facing threats from terror groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.

Despite offering diplomatic support to Israel in international forums, Germany’s arms sales to Israel have seen a sharp decline. Sales dropped from over 300 million euros in 2023 to just 14 million euros in 2024, likely influenced by growing international pressure over civilian casualties in Gaza.

While there is no official refusal of arms sales to Israel, there have been significant delays in responding to their requests, indicating a de facto embargo. Internal debates within the German government seem to be causing these delays.
