Repair work is underway for a white hood believed to have been worn by Uesugi Kenshin, a prominent feudal lord during the Sengoku Period in Japan. The hood, currently housed at Uesugi Shrine in Yonezawa, Yamagata Prefecture, has been shrouded in secrecy since the Meiji Era.
The document prohibiting the disclosure of the hood was created during the Meiji Era, leading to its obscurity among locals. Now, efforts are being made to restore the hood to its former glory. Once the repair work is completed, the white hood, designated as an important cultural asset by the Japanese government, will likely be showcased to the public either in 2028, marking the 450th anniversary of Kenshin’s death, or in 2030, commemorating the 500th anniversary of his birth.
