The Federal Government has kicked off the conversion of 50 vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Zaria, Kaduna State, as part of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (P-CNGi). This initiative aims to promote the use of CNG as a cleaner and more affordable fuel option for Nigerians, especially in light of the subsidy removal on petrol.
The conversion process includes providing free conversion kits and installation for commercial drivers in Zaria. The Team Lead for the CNG conversion initiative, Dauda Suleiman, highlighted the benefits of CNG, such as its lower cost and minimal maintenance requirements. The initiative also aims to increase public awareness and education about CNG as a game-changer in Nigeria’s transportation sector.
Chairman of the Zaria branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers of Nigeria, Comrade Lawal Abdullahi, expressed gratitude for the government’s effort, emphasizing how the conversion will reduce operating costs for commercial vehicle owners and ultimately benefit the economy. With 50 vehicles already converted and more members eager to make the switch, the CNG initiative is set to revolutionize the transportation system in Nigeria.
