5 ex-UK defense secretaries urge Starmer to authorize Ukraine to strike deep in Russia

The Sunday Times has reported that five former British defense secretaries and former Prime Minister Boris Johnson are urging Prime Minister Keir Starmer to allow Ukraine to use its long-range Storm Shadow missiles against Russia, even without US approval. Grant Shapps, Ben Wallace, Gavin Williamson, Penny Mordaunt, Liam Fox, and Boris Johnson warn that delaying action will only embolden President Putin. They argue that Britain must show leadership and determination in supporting Ukraine during this crucial time.

Wallace stated that failure to act now would make Britain appeasers of the Kremlin, while Williamson called it a dereliction of duty. Johnson emphasized that there is no reason for delay in supporting Ukraine.

Keir Starmer is currently in Washington to discuss President Zelensky’s request to use UK-supplied missiles with U.S. President Joe Biden. The former defense secretaries and Boris Johnson are pushing for immediate action to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. It is crucial for Starmer to show leadership and resolve in this critical situation.
