Tasks INEC, FG, security agencies on credible polls
Former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, has called on the Federal Government and relevant organizations to ensure free and fair governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states. Anyaoku emphasized that the international community is closely monitoring Nigeria’s conduct during these elections, set for September 21 and November 16, respectively.
Anyaoku urged INEC, security agencies, and other institutions to meet the expectations of the people to uphold the credibility of the elections. He highlighted the importance of impartiality, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law in guaranteeing that the election results truly reflect the will of the people.
In light of concerns raised by the Edo State government about security threats to Governor Godwin Obaseki and election manipulation, Anyaoku stressed the need for a peaceful and democratic electoral process. He called on international bodies and President Bola Tinubu to intervene and ensure a fair and credible election process.
