UP CM Yogi Adityanath regrets naming mosque Gyanvapi Temple

Yogi Adityanath Says Gyanvapi is Lord Vishwanath, Calls Naming of Mosque ‘Unfortunate’

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed reservations about calling Gyanvapi mosque, saying Gyanvapi actually refers to Lord Vishwanath, another name for Lord Shiva. During a Hindi Diwas event in Gorakhpur, he stated that the confusion around the identity and name of Gyanvapi is a hindrance to worship and national unity.

His comments come after a Varanasi court’s decision on the Gyanvapi case, where the plea from the Hindu side regarding repairs to the basement of Vyas Ji within the mosque complex was rejected. Adityanath reiterated his stance on social media, emphasizing the need for clarity to facilitate worship and maintain unity.

Despite the ongoing controversies and legal battles, Adityanath’s assertion tries to reframe the narrative around Gyanvapi, highlighting its significance as Lord Vishwanath. The issue remains contentious, especially in the lead up to the state’s bypolls, adding further complexity to the already divisive discourse.
