Federal Government Kicks Off Free Conversion of Petrol Vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas in Ogun State
The Federal Government has initiated a groundbreaking programme in Ogun State to inspect and convert petrol-powered vehicles into Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for free. This move is aimed at reducing transportation costs following the removal of fuel subsidies.
The inspection and conversion process is being conducted at two centres in Abeokuta, the state capital, with 60 conversion kits supplied by the government. The Director of Vehicles Inspection Services, Mr. Olugboyega Ademehin, highlighted the importance of the initiative in cutting down on transportation fares.
Commercial vehicles that pass the inspection will receive the CNG kits, and the conversion process will take about four to five hours. The converted vehicles can then access CNG at designated stations, ensuring a cost-effective and safe alternative to traditional fuel.
Transporters and drivers in the state have lauded the government for the initiative, acknowledging its potential to alleviate financial burdens associated with high fuel costs. The embrace of CNG technology is seen as a step towards achieving cleaner and more affordable transportation in the region.
