Myanmar regime seeks foreign aid to deal with deadly floods

Myanmar’s junta chief has appealed for foreign aid to assist with the devastating floods that have affected hundreds of thousands of people amidst ongoing conflict in the country.

Following Typhoon Yagi, floods and landslides have resulted in nearly 300 casualties across Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. In Myanmar alone, over 235,000 individuals have been displaced by the floods, adding to the already challenging circumstances in a nation plagued by internal strife since 2021.

In a rare move, Min Aung Hlaing, the junta leader, emphasized the need for international assistance in providing rescue and relief efforts to the victims. Urgency in implementing these measures was stressed, recognizing the critical situation at hand.
