The Minister of Environment, Alhaji Balarabe Abbas, has announced the deployment of staff to Maiduguri to address pollution and other environmental challenges. Abbas made this known on Friday while consoling the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, during an assessment visit to Maiduguri.
He mentioned that the ministry has prepared for the aftermath of the Alau Dam flood disaster in Maiduguri by deploying staff of relevant agencies to Borno to address pollution issues that arise after such floods. The ministry is bringing all its resources to Borno to assist in handling the aftermath of the flood.
Commending Zulum for his leadership in managing the incident, Abbas stated the ministry’s commitment to supporting Borno in recovery and environmental sustainability planning. Zulum, in response, called for sustainable solutions to the dam and desertification issues in the state and also highlighted the challenge of elephants destroying farmlands.
Overall, both parties expressed their commitment to working together to address the environmental challenges facing the state.
