The Director General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), Jean Kaseya, emphasized the urgent need for a unified effort to combat the monkeypox (Mpox) epidemic across the continent. Following discussions with Moroccan Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, Kaseya expressed his dedication to halting the spread of the epidemic.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Kaseya officially requested the postponement of the 4th edition of the International Conference on Public Health in Africa, originally slated for November in Morocco. He commended Morocco for its solidarity in supporting other African nations in the battle against Mpox, highlighting the country’s innovative contributions to fighting the epidemic.

Furthermore, Kaseya stressed the importance of local vaccine and medicine manufacturing as a priority in combating health crises on the African continent. His call for unity and collective action is crucial in addressing the growing threat of the monkeypox epidemic.
