Ebonyi Government Warns Overseas Scholarship Beneficiaries Against Defection

Ebonyi scholars commit to return home post studies in a bond

The Ebonyi State government has issued a stern warning to beneficiaries of its overseas scholarship scheme who are set to depart for the United Kingdom by the end of September. The chairman of the state scholarship board, Chief Chaka Nweze, emphasized the need for the beneficiaries to sign a bond with the government to prevent any defection during their academic pursuits in the UK.

Nweze disclosed that the government would require the beneficiaries to return to Ebonyi upon completing their studies and contribute their expertise to the state for at least five years. The government has invested approximately N3 billion in the national scholarship scheme and is expected to spend an additional N500 million on flight expenses and visas for the beneficiaries.

Prof. Humphrey Nwaobashi, a board member, urged the beneficiaries to represent the state well and assured that their progress would be closely monitored. One beneficiary, Miss Chika Onele, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and promised to make the most of it.
