Clover Moore celebrates victory in unprecedented sixth term as Lord Mayor of Sydney
Clover Moore has secured her historic sixth term as Lord Mayor of the City of Sydney, first assuming the role in 2004. Moore’s reelection was announced at a post-election party held at the ArtHouse Hotel, where she expressed gratitude towards her team and supporters.
Celebrating her win, Moore took to Instagram to thank Sydney for their support and express excitement about continuing to improve the city’s livability.
Despite facing nine other candidates, Moore emerged victorious with 37% of first preferences, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Moore criticized the negative tone of the election campaign, noting the lack of focus on fresh ideas and policies by other candidates.
Vote counting was paused for the night and will resume on Monday, prioritizing the health and safety of electoral commission staff and scrutineers.
Over 1.3 million NSW voters participated in early pre-polling, with the Liberal party facing challenges due to missed candidate nominations across local councils.
