The BRICS Media Summit 2024 is currently taking place in Moscow, where directors and senior editors from BRICS member media and 34 aligned countries are gathered to enhance media convergence, utilize new information technologies, and boost cooperation levels.
Key Iranian representatives, including Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, and senior members of IRNA, Mehr News Agency, and Tehran Times, were in attendance. The Summit stressed the importance of independent media and close collaboration among BRICS members to uphold truth and counter American media manipulation.
Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, highlighted the hypocrisy of Western claims of freedom of speech by citing the stifling of dissenting voices. He condemned the US for sanctioning Russian journalists, labeling it a double standard in Western freedom of expression.
Speakers at the Summit emphasized the importance of closer ties between Iran and Russia to combat misinformation. TASS Director General, Andrey Kondrashov, and First Deputy Director General, Mikhail Gusman, called for stronger cooperation to counter Western propaganda.
As the media landscape evolves, the necessity for collaboration and technological advancement becomes evident in countering misinformation and promoting truth.
