Ukraine’s state-owned power grid operator Ukrenergo appointed Oleksii Brekht, an experienced professional, as acting chairman to lead the company forward. Brekht, who has been with Ukrenergo for 23 years, will focus on preparing for the heating season and repairing facilities damaged by recent attacks. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining operations as part of the European power system and attracting international aid for network restoration.
Brekht’s appointment follows the dismissal of former CEO Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, which sparked controversy over the reasons behind his removal. Despite claims of unfinished defensive constructions, board members Daniel Dobbeni and Peder Andreasen cited political motives for the decision. International financial institutions expressed concern over the situation, highlighting the strategic importance of Ukrenergo in the energy sector.
The shift in leadership at Ukrenergo underscores ongoing challenges in Ukraine’s energy sector, with political influence playing a significant role. As Brekht takes on his new role, the focus remains on ensuring stability, transparency, and adherence to international standards in the company’s operations.
