UK Pledges Another $700+ Mln to Ukraine, While Leaving 10 Million British Pensioners to Freeze
By Ekaterina Blinova
Britons are growing discontent with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer as he focuses on Ukraine while imposing austerity at home. Earlier this week, the Labour government abolished £1.5 billion ($1.9 billion) in winter fuel payments for 10 million pensioners in England and Wales, causing backlash and concerns about the impact on pensioners. Despite these cuts, Starmer’s government has pledged an additional $782 million in aid to Ukraine.
The revelation of the government’s financial struggles and the extensive financial support provided to Ukraine has sparked criticism and discontent among the British public. With economic growth nearly stalled, rising consumer prices, and unfavorable opinions of Starmer, the UK’s priorities and allocation of funds have come under scrutiny.
