Unlocking South Sudan’s Demographic Landscape: Insights from a Population Estimation Survey

A recent Population Estimation Survey conducted in South Sudan has revealed groundbreaking insights into the nation’s demographic landscape, placing the population at 13 million. This survey, led by the National Bureau of Statistics in collaboration with key government ministries and international organizations, aims to reshape policy-making and development planning in the country.

The Chairperson of the NBS, Dr. Augustino Ting Mayai, emphasized the significance of these findings in informing policy decisions and promoting sustainable development. The survey, conducted due to the lack of a recent census, sheds light on critical employment issues in the country.

Alarmingly, only a small percentage of women and men are employed nationally, with disparities in job access evident even among educated groups. Child labor remains a widespread issue, affecting a significant number of children and robbing them of their childhood and education.

These findings emphasize the urgent need for targeted interventions to address unemployment and child labor in South Sudan, ensuring a brighter future for the population.
