Global Solidarity with Palestine: South African Foreign Minister’s Call
During his visit to the US, South Africa’s Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola urged for global solidarity with Palestine, emphasizing the need to stand against the ongoing atrocities in Gaza carried out by Israel. Lamola made these remarks at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s 53rd Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C.
Highlighting the importance of upholding the rule of law, Lamola underscored the South African government’s historic support for the Palestinian cause. He condemned Israel’s disproportionate response to the conflict in Gaza and called for a ceasefire to protect innocent civilians.
Despite facing pressure from Israeli diplomats, Lamola remained steadfast in his commitment to seeking justice for Palestine through legal channels, including the International Court of Justice. He emphasized the significance of non-alignment in promoting peace and democracy globally.
While acknowledging differences with the US, Lamola stressed the importance of maintaining mutual respect in bilateral relations. He expressed hope for engaging in constructive dialogue to address key issues and build a relationship based on understanding and cooperation.
As the South African Foreign Minister, Lamola’s visit to the US serves as a platform to advocate for human rights and international law, while fostering mutually beneficial ties between the two nations.
