Are they really operating out of the KGB headquarters? RT, the Russian broadcaster, joked about it in response to allegations from the US government. According to CNN, the US State Department is set to accuse RT of espionage and influence operations, claiming that the Russian government has embedded an intelligence-gathering unit within the network focused on global influence. RT’s press office sarcastically replied, “We’ve been broadcasting straight out of the KGB headquarters all this time.”
In a humorous video released in 2015, RT depicted its creative director as a bear, cleaning ladies taking orders from the Kremlin, and foreign staffers chained in a basement eating McDonald’s hamburgers. The recent US Justice Department indictments of two alleged RT employees for sowing discord in the US will likely never see a US courtroom, as they are based in Moscow and extradition is not an option.
RT has faced accusations before, with the US forcing RT America to register as a foreign agent in 2017. Now, the US plans to make it harder for RT to operate globally as international tensions rise. Follow RT for more updates on this unfolding story!
