President Pezeshkian’s historic state visit to Iraq included a poignant visit to the holy city of Karbala on Thursday. This visit comes as part of his first foreign trip since assuming office in August.
Prior to Karbala, President Pezeshkian held meetings with high-ranking Iraqi officials in Baghdad and paid his respects at the shrine of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf. He then proceeded to the Iraqi Kurdistan region to engage with key figures from the Kurdistan Regional Government.
On the final day of his three-day itinerary, President Pezeshkian is scheduled to visit Basra on Friday to oversee various projects being executed by Iranian contractors in the province.
This visit underscores the strong ties between Iran and Iraq, as well as the importance of fostering regional cooperation and collaboration.
