Palestinian Pastor Optimistic About British Policy Shift Towards Israel
Palestinian pastor Reverend Munther Isaac, currently based in Bethlehem, shared his cautious optimism regarding potential improvements in British policy towards Israel under the new Labour government. Despite recent small steps in the right direction, Isaac remains hopeful for more substantial changes.
Isaac, who leads two Lutheran churches in the West Bank, was scheduled to visit the UK as part of a delegation organized by various Christian and human rights groups. Unfortunately, his travel plans were disrupted due to the closure of the Allenby Bridge crossing.
The pastor’s optimism stems from recent developments such as the Labour government’s decision to resume funding to Unrwa, suspend some arms exports to Israel, and drop objections to an ICC arrest warrant for Israeli leaders. However, Isaac emphasized the need for more significant actions to address the ongoing conflict and ensure accountability for war crimes.
He urged ordinary British citizens to pressurize MPs and vote ethically to support meaningful change. Despite his optimism, Isaac remains wary of the Israeli government’s aggressive actions in the West Bank and stresses the importance of tangible results on the ground.
