David Morales, former director of Spanish security company UC Global SL, spied on Julian Assange for the CIA while he was at the Ecuadorian embassy in London. Emails found on Morales’ seized devices suggest he also collaborated with Spain’s National Intelligence Centre (CNI).
According to sources, Morales boasted about working for both CNI and CIA. The evidence implicating Morales with the Spanish intelligence service was found in new dumps from his mobile phones. This information was not initially given to the investigating judge.
Morales’ involvement with CNI and evidence suggesting he shared information about Assange with the CIA adds complexity to the case. Assange, known for leaking classified documents, recently signed an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice.
Sole contact point
In internal messages, Morales informed his employees of potential collaboration with CNI. He warned against interacting with other intelligence agencies without his authorization, threatening termination if the rule was breached.
Report on a former CNI director
Emails from Morales indicate his role in arranging a meeting between a company owned by a former CNI director and a collaborator of a Spanish defense systems company.
Following investigations, Morales faces charges related to client-attorney privilege violation, money laundering, and misappropriation.
