Norway Lifts Restrictions on Defense Exports to Turkey
Norway has officially ended its restrictions on exporting defense material and military goods to Turkey, which were put in place in 2019. The Norwegian Foreign Ministry made the announcement on Wednesday, signaling a normalized relationship between the two countries.
The decision was communicated to Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan by his Norwegian counterpart Espen Barth Eide during a phone call. Fidan noted his satisfaction with the lifting of restrictions, emphasizing that such limitations were not in line with the spirit of alliance between the two nations.
This move marks a significant shift in the relationship between Norway and Turkey, as Norway was one of the countries that had imposed defense industry restrictions on Turkey back in 2019, following Ankara’s military operation in northern Syria.
This development paves the way for enhanced cooperation and collaboration between the two countries in the defense sector.
