Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attempted to avoid pending arrest warrants by the International Criminal Court (ICC) by requesting a criminal investigation against himself and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in Israel. The Justice Minister was instructed to open the probe, but the Attorney General rejected the request as a ploy.
Netanyahu aimed for the investigation to be opened and closed quickly, with an update filed to the ICC to thwart any potential arrest warrants. The ICC’s Chief Prosecutor urged the issuance of urgent arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant for “ongoing criminality” in Palestine.
Amid international condemnation and facing charges of genocide, Israel continues its offensive on Gaza, leading to a humanitarian catastrophe with thousands killed, wounded, and displaced. The war on Gaza has caused a devastating impact on civilians, particularly women and children.
