The junior doctors in Kolkata have been on a ‘cease work’ and sit-in demonstration for the third consecutive day outside the West Bengal Health Department headquarters. The proposed talks between the agitating junior doctors and the Bengal government failed to take off, leading to continued protests.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that the meeting with the doctors cannot be live-streamed due to the issue being sub-judice. The doctors are demanding the suspension of key officials, including the Police Commissioner and Health Secretary, until their demands are met.
Despite the government’s appeals to resume work, the protesting doctors are determined to continue until their demands are addressed. Solidarity from the public has been impressive, with people offering support by bringing food and essentials to the demonstrators.
The presence of a large police contingent around the protest site indicates efforts to maintain law and order. The doctors are determined to fight for justice for R.G. Kar, with the support of the community keeping their spirits high during the demonstrations.
