Comoros President Azali Assoumani was injured in a knife attack during a funeral but is in stable condition, according to the presidency. The attacker has been apprehended, bringing an end to the ordeal.
The incident occurred at Salimani-Itsandra, outskirts of Moroni, where the President was attending the funeral of a religious figure. Government spokeswoman Fatima Ahamadael assured the public that the President’s life is not at risk.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the attacker, a 22-year-old army recruit with no prior criminal record, was in traditional attire near the religious leader’s body when the attack took place.
